KITCHENER - Two local schools have stopped providing drinking water fountains after tests found high levels of lead in their water.
Kitchener Collegiate Institute and dunes of the public school were informed of the issue Thursday, June 2 and immediately suspended the use of fountains and drink stations. There is currently no information on what could cause high levels.
Lila Read, principal at KCI, said the "variant" levels were discovered during regular testing of water.The Waterloo District School Board follows the Ministry of Environment for the regulation of water analysis, including the standard that no more than 10 micrograms of lead per liter of water. A microgram is o1 / 1000000 e of a gram.
